The World Health Organization estimates that 57 million people currently live with dementia globally. This number will almost double every 20 years, reaching 78 million by 2030 and 153 million by 2050. Dr Alison Richardson, Member of the Neurological Association of South Africa, chats to Leigh-Anne Williams about why dementia is such a growing concern here in South Africa and across Sub-Saharan Africa, some of the risk factors to watch out for and where people can get help.
